WE228A

The WE228A is a 5 Kw water cooled triode with a mu of 16 and a maximum frequency of 3 MHz for full ratings. These tubes were first produced in 1926 by Western Electric. This example was received with the glass completely coated with the white residue from the filament when the tube lost its vacuum. The coating was removed by placing several steel BB shot into the tube and rotating the tube on a lathe. A magnet was placed near the glass to hold the shot as it rotated and cleaned the glass.
